ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Saida D. Daukeyeva, PhD (Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, 2000), trained in Syria (Institute of Arabic language, Damascus) and England (School of Oriental and African Studies, London University). She was a winner of the Research Support Scheme – 2000 Programme of the Open Society Institute, Soros Foundation (individual project No.: 366/2000).

Her publications include: Arab music theory (Moscow, Russia State Library (No. 3252), 1999); The theory of mode by Abu Nasr al-Farabi in his treatise the “Great Book on Music” (Almaty, 2000); and a series of annotated translations of the “Great Book on Music” published in the musicological magazine “Musiqi Dünyasi” (“Musical World”) – Baku, 2000, No. 3/4; 2001, No. 1/2, No. 3/4; 2002, No. 1/2, No. 3/4; 2003, No. 1/2 etc.
